Mozilla has kindly offered to host Cairo Summit 2008, the first formal attempt to gather as many cairo developers as possible for hacking and improving cairo.
Dates
The summit will take place from Tuesday August 26 through Thursday August 29. Those days are intended to be filled with hacking, so it probably makes sense for most people to arrange flights to arrive on Monday August 25 and leave on Friday August 29.
Location
The summit will be at the Mozilla office:
Mozilla Foundation
1981 Landings Drive
Building K
Mountain View, CA 94043-0801
See the Mozilla contact page for maps and driving directions.
Travel
The nearest airport to Mountain View is San Jose, California (SJC), but many people will find more available/cheaper flights into San Francisco International (SFO). SFO is about 30 miles from Mountain View, and as such, a taxicab would be rather expensive. Other options are renting a car, (which is often a necessity for getting around cities in California), or using the BART/CalTrain to get to Mountain View, and then taking a taxicab to your hotel from there.
Accommodation
Most attendees are making reservations at the Wild Palms hotel in Sunnyvale. Having as many people there as possible will make it convenient for carpooling. Note that there is a 30% discount available for a 4-night stay, so be sure to scroll down to find that option when making a reservation.
If it gets full, other options are the Domain Hotel in Sunnvale which is apparently across the street from the Wild Palms, or the Avante in Mountain View. The Avante is a little closer to the Mozilla office and may even provide a shuttle to the office.
Ground transportation
As mentioned above, the goal is to get most attendees booked into the same hotel so that we can carpool. Several locals will be attending and can hopefully provide cars, avoiding everyone having to rent a car.
Meals
Mozilla will have breakfast and lunch brought in for the three days of the summit. Also Mozilla would like to host one group dinner one night. More details to follow.
